Software is the essence of all technology, from smartphones to robots to power stations. Code, algorithms and data structures drive the systems that make modern living possible, and a detailed understanding of these concepts provides considerable career opportunities in a vast array of fields.

In software development, specialists design and enhance software and use the latest technologies, including programming languages, operating systems, networks, distributed computing systems, servers, databases and modelling.

Workers in this domain need to be much more than technical experts. They must be able to think laterally and creatively to solve complex problems, and be able to communicate their solutions to non-technical colleagues and clients while working in interdisciplinary teams with experts in diverse fields.

There is massive potential for developing technological solutions in most areas of human life. Already, technological solutions have started to transform domains including healthcare, communications, agriculture, industrial, entertainment fields and much more. For example, helping doctors to treat a new-born baby, analyzing the huge volume of data from the human genome, tracking jet engines in flight, ensuring that maintenance is planned accordingly, and making online shopping easier and more secure – these are just some of the challenges that Software Engineers/Computer Scientists rise to every day by using their technical analysis, design and programming skills that they learn to create better and more intelligent tools.

There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking this qualification. However, we need to assess your current level through our internal initial assessment test, and learners are expected to have the following skills or relevant work experience:

Maths and English

All universities require Maths and English GCSE at Grade C/4 or Functional skills level 2. We require you to have at least one of these to join our course and can support you to find a suitable course to gain the other alongside the course.

Contact your local college or Adult Education Service for GCSEs or Functional Skills, these are often free.

Age restrictions

The Level 3 qualifications are not approved for use by candidates under the age of 16.

Learners are required to complete four mandatory units, and then they can select either Networking or Software engineering.

Level 3 Diploma in Software Development (Diploma for ICT Systems and Principles for IT Professionals)

• Installing and configuring Windows based servers

• Programming in HTML5, JavaScript & CSS3
• Software development fundamentals

Course Fee: £3,340

There are three options available for funding:

• Our course is fully funded by the Advanced Learner Loan. Our team will assist you to apply for the loan. More information here.
• Self–Funding: you can fund the course yourself if you are unable to access a Learner Loan.
  • The fees for self-funded learner is: £2,500 [25% upfront]
  • If you do Level 3 and Level 4 with us, the fees is: £6,000 [30% upfront]
• Employer Funding:- you may be able to approach your employer for funding if you are already working in the sector. Learners often combine working with the course.
• If you will be self-funding, the course fee may be reduced and you will be able to pay in instalments. Please speak to our advisers for more details.

Md A Sobur

MSc degree in Network and Security. CCIE Security written exam, Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Four years of teaching experience as a lecturer in UK universities and colleges.

Majed Pramanik

He has graduated with an MSC from the University of St Andrews and is an expert in software development. He has extensive experience in maintaining data ownership in a safe-haven environment and ETL management.

Dr Md Mahmudul Hasan

He is an expert in building data-driven AI products with more than 12+ years of experience. He has completed his PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Anglia Ruskin University, funded by the EU. He did an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Essex, UK.

Brian Tyler

He has strong experience delivering Management NVQs to level 5 and ILM training at that level. He is also an expert in managing and leading IQA.

1. Are there any entry requirements for the access course?

Candidates undertaking this qualification are expected to have either one or more following skills:

• High school reading level
• English & maths or a relevant Level 1 qualification
• Level 2 ICT course or relevant IT course
• Appropriate industry experience

2. Who is this course for?

This course is designed for students who want to pursue a career as a network or system engineer.

3. Can I get funding to cover the whole cost of the course?

If you live in England, you may be entitled to a non-means-tested learner loan to cover the whole cost of the course.

11th of September.

5. How long does the course last?

Approximately 9 months.

6. How will the course be assessed? Are there any exams?

Set assignments and/or a portfolio of evidence collected throughout the course. Some units have a paired multiple-choice test (please see individual units for details).

7. Will I get help to apply for universities?

Absolutely, we will take you through the whole process. We are a registered UCAS centre and will submit your application along with a reference from us, electronically.

8. Will I have to travel to lessons?

No, all of our lessons are delivered online by our trainers.

9. Can I apply for the course if I need additional support with my studies?

Yes, of course. We will discuss your needs with you and where possible, put a support plan in place.
